May you be blessed with the desire to search the Scriptures and put yourself in the lineage of people who find their identity in being suffering, yet holy and chosen people.
May you be blessed with a memory of God’s covenant words which require you to take care of the orphan, widow, alien, the poor, and the oppressed. For they are God’s beloved.
I pray that you are blessed with healthy empathy that allows for you to sit in the suffering of others. May you begin to see new perspectives. May you have tears, and anger, and sadness. But may you also have joy, and happiness, and smiles, and delight.
I pray you allow your spirit to groan and hiss and wail to the safe space of the Trinity when there are no words to say or pray rather than turning to numbing the pain or ignoring it all together. Better out than in.
May you be blessed with tenacity. May you latch on to injustice and never rest until it is reconciled. May you learn to know what it is to truly fight.
May you be blessed with creativity and resourcefulness to find solutions to complicated and urgent issues. God grant you elasticity of mind, body, and spirit for newness and growth. May your mind be opened to ideas, your heart be open to dialogue, and your ego open to correction and change.
God grant you tact, savviness, and discernment of when to engage, and when to simply pray, “Lord, have mercy.”
May you be open and obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit. And may you be blessed with bravery and faith to take the risks you are asked to take.
May you ever be led into prayer. For you are simply a servant of the God of Justice, the God who Sees, and the God who grants victory.
And May the words you pray draw you deeper into the community of believers across history, for you are not alone.
